An ambitious university student hopes to trade an open jar of Vegemite for a brand new house.

Cooper Towne, 19, put an open jar of Vegemite up for sale on Facebook marketplace and TikTok just over two weeks ago in the hopes of owning his own home in Melbourne.

The Geelong creative arts student, who is in his first year at Deakin University, told Daily Mail Australia his plan was inspired by Canadian blogger Kyle MacDonald.

In 2005, Kyle Macdonald traded his way from a red paper clip to a house in Kipling, Saskatchewan in a series of 14 swaps made over the course of a year.
