An iconic Sydney warehouse, known as the “lips building”, has been listed for sale with a $3.3 million price guide after being converted into a bespoke, three-level residence.

The warehouse conversion in Erskineville in Sydney’s inner south-west  – famous for the large, brightly-coloured lips that adorn the facade of the 1930s building – will go under the hammer on May 29.

The listing agent for the five-bedroom, five-bathroom residence at 186 Rochford Street – Duncan Gordon, director of Raine & Horne Newtown – said the stunning home had already attracted enormous interest from a broad mix of buyers.

“Everyone knows the lips building in Erskineville. It’s a very iconic building in this area, and so the listing has created a lot of talk and interest among the local community,” Mr Gordon said.

“But we’ve also had buyers coming from all over the place who have been attracted to this unique and iconic building and the idea of living so close to the city.”

Mr Gordon said the famous lips were originally used as part of a Sydney Mardi Gras parade but said he did not know the full story of how they came to be on the famous Erskineville warehouse.
