A grand home in Ballan in need of a lot of work has hit the market in an exceptionally rare sale. Especially since the property has been owned by the same family for 156 years.
The Victorian era home at 140 Inglis Street, Ballan, has been listed with price expectations of $1.4 million.
The building was originally used as the post and telegraph office in the town, which was first settled during the gold rush in the 1850s, but later became a family home.
It has been owned by the Flack family since being built in 1864, with vendor Philip Flack saying he had many happy family memories there.
“My great, great, great-grandfather built it,” Mr Flack said. “It’s been in the family since then and was passed on to my great-grandfather, then my grandfather inherited it and then my father.
“I bought out my brothers so my wife and I could do something with it,” he said. “I’m the eldest so I was keen, because of the memories, to keep it in the family.”
With a lot of work to be done to fix up the home which has a heritage overlay, he made the difficult decision to sell.
