A pregnant mother who was desperately looking for a family home to rent was conned out of $3,000 from elaborate scammers posing as property owners.

Jessa Bryen, 22, had been looking for four months for a new home in Townsville, on Queensland’s north coast.

She was coming up to the end of her current lease and even sold her car and set aside some of the money so she could afford to pay the deposit for a new home.

Ms Bryen put out a call on social media for any vacant properties when she received a response from someone claiming to be a real estate agent.

The faux agent said they had a vacant property with four bedrooms and two bathrooms on 75 Twelfth Avenue, Railway Estate.

They even sent over paperwork for a lease and ‘security deposit’.

‘He sent through legitimate documents of a lease … he gave me multiple promises of keys,’ Ms Bryen said.

The con-artist asked for $3,000 from Ms Bryden before they stopped responding to her messages.

By that point Ms Bryden realised she had been duped.

‘I was too trusting … we are devastated,’ she said.
