An electrician who took a ‘big risk’ by purchasing a shabby-looking $790,000 property only to bulldoze it months later has paid off his mortgage in two years.

The Australian tradesman and his wife bought the three-bedroom home at 49 Volga Street in 2018, seeing great potential in the Hadfield suburb estate in Melbourne.

With the help of his industry contacts and a few close friends the sparky knocked the house down and built a stunning beachside-inspired duplex in its place.

Eight days after one half of the property was put up for sale, 49A Volga Street, the couple accepted an offer of $960,000.

They will continue to live on the other side, right next to their new neighbours.
