After less than a month on the market asking $16.8 million, David Bowie’s longtime apartment in downtown Manhattan is in contract to be sold, according to property records and StreetEasy.com.

The musician, who died in 2016 at 69, bought the apartment for $3.81 million in 1999, according to StreetEasy.

“By all accounts, Bowie loved living in SoHo/Nolita,” according to the book ”Forever Stardust: David Bowie Across the Universe,” which notes that Mr. Bowie enjoyed wandering through Washington Square Park and browsing local bookstores. “He felt at home, semi-anonymous, among New Yorkers too cool to act star-struck at celebrity sightings.”

Measuring just over 5,000 square feet with an additional more-than 1,000 square feet of outdoor space across three terraces, the apartment is in a mid-rise building that dates to the late 1800s and was formerly home to a chocolate factory, according to StreetEasy.
