Forty buyers were seen camping at an estate in Sydney’s west four days before last weekend’s release in what’s become an escalating war for land.

Home seekers are resorting to desperate tactics to be front of the queue at new land releases in Western Sydney amid the biggest property price boom in close to two decades.

Multiple land buyers were seen queuing up for the Saturday release of land in a new estate in southwest Sydney on the Wednesday, with the buyers camping three nights outside the developer’s offices.

There were so many campers at the Catherine Park Estate vying for the 38 available lots that a security detail was reported to have been called in to manage the queue.

The 40 campers were spread across the vacant lot next to the sales and information centre of developer Harrington Estates. There were also people sleeping in their cars in the nearby parking lot.

A previous land release in the same estate the previous week attracted buyers prepared to camp two nights – suggesting the latest buyers were trying to one-up their potential competition.
