A futuristic concrete house, incredible wall of coloured glass and a property submerged in the OCEAN: Australia’s most impressive buildings revealed

  • A ‘vertical village’ library with a brightly coloured glass facade, a converted fire station, a corten-steel clad library and a house partially submerged in the ocean at Bondi feature in the 2016 National Architecture Awards.

The awards, which were announced at a ceremony in Sydney on Thursday night, selected the 40 best projects from across the country to compete for the top prize in the commercial, residential, heritage, interior, small project, sustainable, educational architecture and urban design categories.

The 2016 National Architecture Award winners have been revealed, with the top 40 projects covering everything from an old converted fire station, a modern house in the Sydney inner-city suburb of Chippendale (bottom right), a house in the ocean at Bondi Beach (left) and a brightly coloured glass fronted library in Victoria (top right).
